Bikes go flying as racers in the Cat 3 race fall while sprinting for the finish line on Saturday, April 12, 2008, during the First Annual Spring Fling of Cycling at the industrial park at the DeLand Airport in DeLand. The Cat 3 racers ride for 45minutes and then do two laps. Kevin Mcguire (335) placed first, Ryan Ellner (92) second, and Humberto Pages (436) 3rd. This circuit race went around a 1.1 mile loop at the industrial complex at the airport. There are different categories for different skill levels of riders. The categories go from five through one, with one being a pro category. Once a rider gets enough points they can move up to the next category. On Sunday April 13th they will have a road race in DeLeon Springs starting at the Spring Garden Ranch Horse Farm. Part of the money from the race will go to FAITH Riders, a non-profit group that does therapy for people using horses. The event was also a fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society?s Team in Training. This event was produced by Wam Events. Keri Burns <cq>, the executive director, said that she does the events to help raise money for charities and promote fitness. (Daytona Beach News-Journal, Chad Pilster)
